I am no longer vegetarian. (the other two still are.) These new pigs look yummy. (the other two are sad.)

Wrong. The other two are in the fridge. And the barn. And a couple of brine tubs. Blimey - my recent absence has not only been down to walking away from my job but also because we've been turning the last two into an impressive and very tasty range of sausages, bacon, hams and more. More than one person has said they're the best sausages they've ever had - so we must be doing something right. Stunned by your carnivorousness (I only lasted two weeks as a vegetarian - it was the snake and pigmy pies wot did me)

I actually meant that *my* other two (ie, Himself and Her Ladyship) were sad that I have turned my back on the pure path of vegetarianism and am now eating things with faces. . . .

OK. Seeing as you asked a direct question. You remember we used to do something with money. That changed to selling something to do with living in other countries. Then I came into work the other day and we were selling incandescent light bulbs. Not just to people phoning in for the things that, rightly, have been taken from supermarket shelves around the UK; cold calling, hard selling. Naturellement (if you'll pardon my French) I said this couldn't be done, and agreed to be sacked forthwith - along with a colleague who used to sell solar panels in markets hereabouts. (Her Outdoors, to answer your other question, was one of three people who made the decision to go very easy for me - just in case I needed reminding that I'd have a problem selling something that should be illegal and what would I say when a green journalist asked me what I'd been doing earlier in the year? etc etc.)

Anyhow, the good news (as far as the planet goes) is, the lightbulb-selling concept died a death in just a week.

The bad news (for my former colleagues) is that most of them are now out of work, too.

The other good news is that I should be eligible for the French dole and can devote my time exclusively to setting up ecovallee and being with my increasingly fantastic family. It also helps that we've got all our meat for the year.

Happy now? I am.
