Orchid watch III: One in, one out

This one came as a surprise to Her Outdoors the other day. "I want to find a new orchid", she said to herself. Then looked into the woods and saw, not one of the orchids we've been waiting for, but our very own Greater Butterly Orchid:

I couldn't wait for a Bee Orchid to show up. So I nipped across the road at the top of our drive and shot this one. I think it's quite nice:

(Oh, I never explained the change of format for the photos.)

Go on then . . .

I'm so jealous of your orchids. I'm hoping to have more colonise round the farm and in a small way it's beginning to happen.

Last year I spotted a couple of pyramid orchids in one of my ditches and marked them so the verge cutter didn't mow them. They are looking lovely this year. On top of that, one has appeared in the lawn along with a bumper crop of lizard orchids and three pyramid orchids have bloomed down by the field pond.

I'm hoping that as my wood begins to grow I'll get some others in there too.

You can't be jealous with... lizard orchids! There are two down the road (not flowering yet). I dream of lizard orchids...

it is now clear to me that i wouldn't recognise an orchid if it was staring me in the face.

i don't think i dare cut the grass anymore.
