What are you looking at?

If you ask most people (and when would you find the time to do that?), they’d probably say you only need a spade to find a hole. But then, most people wouldn’t find a hole like this.

It has four walls. No doorway. And no obvious reason for existing. Any ideas?

How about a storage pit? Is it in an encampment - there appears to be the remains of a wall or rampart behind.

I see the bucket, so what were you collecting???? See I said I was nosey :-D

I couldn't find anything interesting in the 'feature'. Some signs of burning, but I don't think it was a fire pit or chimney. One small bone. Lots of tiny snail shells. It has clearly been excavated at least once. I was hoping for a well, spring, or evidence of a house, so we could claim some kind of restoration project.

The bucket is for spoil, which can be seen dumped in the background.

That big pile of rocks came from inside the hole too. It's a hole at the end of a wall in the woods. Possibly an old boundary wall. Possibly farmed at some point.

Whatever it is, I like it. I just don't know what to do with it. Other than fill it in again.

Could easily be very very old there are things like that dating back to the ironage round here.

Could be where they walled up an evil thingy that's got out and stalks the woods ? If there's a full moon
